Tillage practices affect weeds differently in monoculture vs. crop rotation

چکیده

Reduced tillage practices are widely considered to be more sustainable than conventional practices, but many producers remain reluctant reduce due difficulties controlling weeds. Crop rotation is often put forward as the best means manage weeds in reduced systems, uncertainties around how different and crop rotations interact. Here, we assess effects of four on weed seedbank density composition wheat (Triticum aestivum) monoculture (WWWW), two rotations, wheat-medic-wheat-medic (annual medic, Medicago spp.; WMWM), wheat-canola-wheat-lupin (Brassica napus, Lupinus WCWL). We use data across a whole four-year period from long-term experiment replicated at sites South Africa’s winter rainfall region. The assessed follow gradient soil disturbance: (CT, inversion through ploughing), minimum (MT, shallow loosening), no (NT, direct drilling with tine openers) zero (ZT, disc openers). Our results indicate that type had effect within monoculture. Both generally lower densities dominance grass monoculture, under ZT seed bank both was similar found Thus antagonistic this system, possibly limited chemical control options CT, MT NT, or residue cover promoting establishment. Subsequently, recommend region seeking opt for NT rather ZT, avoid Weed researchers agronomists should wary other such interactions between management systems.

Structure of weed communities occurring in crop rotation and monoculture of cereals

A strict field experiment with crops sown in crop rotation and monoculture wascarried out in the years 1988-2012 at the Experimental Station Uhrusk belonging tothe University of Life Sciences in Lublin, south-eastern Poland. The study wasaimed at evaluating the structure of weed communities occurring in crop rotationand monoculture of cereals. The highest weed density m-2 was determined inthe s...

Soil quality response to long-term tillage and crop rotation practices

Soil quality is influenced by inherent and anthropogenic factors. This study was conducted to provide multiple groups guidance on how to achieve and maintain improved soil quality/health. Our hypothesis was that tillage intensity was the primary anthropogenic factor degrading soil quality, and our objective was to prove that hypothesis through an intensive 2005 sampling of a central Iowa, USA f...

Yield and chemical composition of spring triticale grain depending on cropping and tillage systems

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the yield and chemical composition of triticalegrain in different crop rotation and tillage systems. The first experimental factor was thecropping system – a) crop rotation and b) monoculture and the second factor was the tillagesystem – 1) conventional (CT), 2) reduced (RT) and 3) no-tillage (NT). The spring triticale yieldwas found to be 15.4% high...

Effects of agricultural management on soil organic matter and carbon transformation – a review

Soil organic carbon (SOC) is the most often reported attribute and is chosen as the most important indicator of soil quality and agricultural sustainability. In this review, we summarized how cultivation, crop rotation, residue and tillage management, fertilization and monoculture affect soil quality, soil organic matter (SOM) and carbon transformation. The results confirm that SOM is not only ...

Soil microbial metabolism and invertase activity under crop rotation and no-tillage in North China

Soil samples were collected at both jointing and maturing stages of maize and wheat to compare the effects of 4-year no-tillage (NT) and conventional tillage (CT) on seasonal variations of microbial biomass carbon (C), metabolic quotient, and invertase activity in a sandy loam soil in North China. Soil invertase activity significantly increased (P < 0.05) from summer to spring of the next year ...
